December 3, 2021 – 109 King Avenue by Barry Bryan Associates, named as Grand Prize Award Recipient at the EIFS Council of Canada 2021 Design Awards Celebration Dinner
Industry professionals gathered on the evening of November 30 to recognize and celebrate the Finalists and Grand Prize Award recipient of the 2021 EIFS Council of Canada (ECC) Architectural Design Awards. During the evening’s presentations, the ECC announced 109 King Avenue by Barry Bryan Associates as the Grand Prize winner for this year’s Awards. The 109 King Avenue project was selected by the 2021 Awards Judging Panel for the Grand Prize from amongst the eight, excellent category Finalists.

September 28, 2021 – Today’s feature project is the Ajax Library Building Alteration in Ontario by Barry Bryan Associates. Over 20 years, the library saw a large amount of degradation to the building envelope. Many areas within the envelope were removed and re constructed back with modern building envelope and science techniques, through air-moisture barriers, proper transition membranes, adequate insulation, and installation methods as well as correct application of finish levels and transitions. This project uses the Sto Canada STO Panel Ci Therm and STO Ventec system, which is one of the first projects in Canada to incorporate this European technology as a rainscreen system that uses EIFS wall components and prefabricated sub structure to compliment the EIFS wall technologies.
September 21, 2021 – Today’s feature project is the City Life Church in Leduc, Alberta by Frank Hilbich Architect Inc. This modern church boasts a contemporary and expressive exterior by using the Adex-RS system by Adex Systems. The ADEX-RS EIFS system creates an air-tight building envelope, eliminating thermal bridges and maximizing energy efficiency.
September 14, 2021 – It’s spotlight Tuesday! Today’s featured project is the Marshall Road JV Commercial Building in Abbotsford, BC by Keystone Architecture & Planning. The building is one of two commercial buildings within a new commercial Shopping Centre re-developed on a former landscape nursery supply store site. The use of Dryvit Systems Canada Outsulation-Plus 2” EIFS exterior cladding system, integrated with Longboard aluminum cladding and curtainwall glazing allowed both the flexibility and economy in design, ease and speed of installation and optimum thermal performance for a base building that would lend itself to an appealing aesthetic.
September 7, 2021 – Today’s featured project is the Dakota Dunes Resort & Casino by AODBT Architecture + Interior Design and Lemay Michaud Architecture Interior Design. The project is located in the middle of the Saskatchewan Prairies, on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation land. The façade uses Adex-RS system by ADEX Systems Inc. and incorporates asymmetrical oblique lines which echo the vast fields surrounding the building, the canola waltzing in the wind, and the shapes of First Nation traditional tepees.
August 31, 2021 – Our spotlight post today is 30 University Crescent in Winnipeg by BLDG architecture office inc! The use of the ADEX Systems Inc. ADEX-RS EIFS assembly, featuring a specialty finish called Micatex, accentuated the modern and vibrant architectural design. University Crescent is a 104- unit multi-family residential building that will become a gateway project for the Agassiz community, signalling the entry to the University precinct. This 7-storey building will provide much needed rental apartment accommodation to people of all ages.
August 24, 2021 – Today’s spotlight feature is 109 King Ave by Barry Bryan Associates in Newcastle ON! The project is a shining example of a modern urban intensification and housing infill project in a growing community. This mid-rise, mixed-use building is the first in Canada to use a combination of Sto Canada STO-Panel Prefabricated Technology with the ECO Shape Vintage (Brick render) materials. This use of modern materials enables the building to achieve a modern aesthetic while remaining respectful surrounding context.
August 17, 2021 – Our second spotlight feature is Teesdale Place by Taylor Smyth Architects in Toronto. This Tower Renewal project uses the Durex Quantum Select system by Durabond Products Ltd. The unique cladding design provides residents with a unique identifier for their home, and the project improves the connection between residents, their home, and the surrounding natural and built environment.
August 10, 2021 – Our first spotlight feature is the Blindheim Passivhaus by ABBARCH Architecture Inc. in Vancouver. The use of the ADEX Systems Inc. EIFS assembly was a key factor in achieving the rigorous air leakage and thermal energy demand requirements of the Passive House label. The house was designed to intelligently push creative design boundaries and produce a comfortable, quiet, and resilient house without compromise, the building maximizes performance and efficiency, whilst minimizing maintenance and cost.

May 1, 2020 – EIFS Council of Canada announces the opening of the 2021 Architectural Design Awards Program
The EIFS Council of Canada announces the opening of its 2021 Architectural Design Awards Program. Now in their fourth consecutive year, the ECC Design Awards honour design professionals which incorporate EIFS into innovative and creative built projects.
The ECC’s annual Awards Program showcases outstanding EIFS projects completed in Canada during a defined criteria period. Last year’s Grand Prize was awarded to the mid-rise residential project ‘Sage 10,’ by IBI Group. The Sage 10 was selected by the esteemed jury panel from amongst the seven excellent category finalists.
